The best time to get tattooed in Bali

You can get tattooed in Bali any month of the year — the studio runs the same whatever the weather. But timing does change two things: how easily your tattoo heals, and how much of your trip you get to enjoy around it. A little forethought makes both go smoothly.

Dry season (roughly April to October)

This is the smoother window to heal in. Lower humidity means less sweat and a tattoo that dries and settles more easily, which makes it simpler to keep clean and free of irritation. Skies are clearer and your days are more predictable, so it's easier to plan a quiet healing stretch between the more active parts of your holiday.

Wet season (roughly November to March)

The wetter months bring more heat, higher humidity and heavier sweating, all of which can slow healing and irritate a fresh tattoo. None of that is a reason to avoid getting tattooed — plenty of pieces heal beautifully in the rainy season. It just means being a little more careful: keep it clean and dry, change out of damp clothes, and follow your aftercare routine closely.

Get it early in your trip

Whatever the season, the single best timing trick is to sit early. Get tattooed in the first days of your stay so the surface has healed before your beach and sea days — the sea and pools have to wait roughly two weeks either way. Try not to get tattooed the day before flying, or right before a long day baking in the sun.

Heat matters more than the calendar

Bali is tropical all year round, so the month on its own won't decide how your tattoo heals. Heat, humidity and direct sun are the real factors, and they're present in every season. Whenever you sit, the rules are the same: keep it clean, dry and out of direct sun while it heals, and it will look after itself.

Book ahead in peak months

The busiest stretches are around July and August and over the new-year period, when good artists fill up fast and slots go early.
